AQHYA World Championship Show Contests
Youth have the opportunity to compete in a variety of contests at the AQHYA World Championship Show.
AQHYA World Championship Show Contest Information
- Forms must be received in the AQHA office by June 15, not postmarked.
- All contests will be held at the 2018 Build Ford Tough AQHYA World Championship Show in Oklahoma City.

AQHYA members have the chance to show off their artistic side in the art photo contest. The contest will consist of two categories - art and photography. Each contestant may enter up to three entries in the contest. Entries will be displayed in Section 300 during the Ford Youth World.
Affiliates may spotlight their youth activities by entering the scrapbook contest. Scrapbooks may be submitted in a traditional scrapbook format or by video.
Affiliates will participate in the stall decorating contest, which will feature stall decorations reflecting this year’s theme, “Reach Out & Amplify".
Join AQHYA, 4-H and FFA judging teams from around the nation at the AQHYA World Championship Show Judging Contest. Interested coaches should contact their AQHYA affiliate youth adviser, state horse extension specialist or state FFA adviser for qualifying rules.
The judging contest consists of eight classes with four horses in each class. Four halter classes, composed of geldings and mares, and four performance classes selected from the following: western pleasure, reining, hunter under saddle, hunter hack, trail, western riding, western horsemanship and/or hunt seat equitation. Reasons will follow class judging and will be given on two halter and two performance classes.
The prepared speech contest gives contestants a chance to showcase their knowledge of the horse industry while delivering a five-minute speech based on the AQHYA World Championship Show theme for the current year.
The impromptu speech contest challenges contestants' knowledge of the horse industry while encouraging them to think on their feet. Contestants draw a topic and have five minutes to prepare a speech to deliver to the judges.
The public speaking contest is designed to increase 13 & under youth members' public speaking skills while having fun! In this contest, participants can choose to present a method demonstration, illustrated talk, or traditional speech. Contestants should answer the following question in their presentation, "How does the American Quarter Horse help you Reach Out?"
Each affiliate may decorate and enter one pair of Wrangler jeans and one pair of Justin boots to reflect this year’s theme, “Reach Out & Ampilfy” while also uniquely representing their affiliate.
The fashion show and exhibitor dance will be held on Monday night in the Jim Norick Arena in conjunction with the Parade of Teams. Two youth from each participating affiliate will be modeling the decorated Wrangler jeans and Justin boots in the fashion show. Following the Parade of Teams, show off your dance skills and meet new friends at the exhibitor dance!
All affiliates are automatically entered in the team spirit contest. Affiliates earn points from youth participation and attendance at the following contests and events: Parade of Teams, Ride the Pattern clinics, stall decorating contest, Wrangler jeans and Justin boots decorating contest and fashion show, scrapbook contest, art and photo contest.
The AQHYA College Fair provides colleges and universities from around the country the chance to recruit and inform top youth competitors about the excellent programs and opportunities at their institutions. The college fair will be held August 6-7, in section 300 of the Jim Norick Arena.
