AQHA Trail Challenge and Trail Ride Programs

Changes to the AQHA Trail Challenge and Trail Ride programs will allow AQHA the opportunity to develop programs that better serve the Association’s members and American Quarter Horses.

The Trail Challenge and Trail Ride programs will be discontinued effective December 31, 2017.

As the largest single-breed equine association in the world, the American Quarter Horse Association strives to deliver the best programs and services to our members and horse lovers across the globe.

It is important to continuously evaluate our efforts to ensure we are providing programs that create a positive impact on the Association and industry. As part of this process, program audits of all AQHA programs are evaluated by AQHA staff members and the AQHA Executive Committee. We recently conducted an audit of the AQHA Trail Challenge and Trail Ride programs.

These programs were originally developed to provide opportunities for AQHA members and nonmembers to further engage with their horses and other horse owners. With any AQHA program, the ultimate goal is to attract new people into our Association and maintain current membership. While these programs have created fellowship among participants, they have struggled to help bring them into the Association to become a part of our AQHA family.

The Trail Challenge and Trail Ride programs will be discontinued effective December 31, 2017. This change will allow AQHA the opportunity to re-evaluate and develop programs that better serve both our members and horses.

This decision, along with the other decisions made by the Executive Committee, are part of a bigger picture of an Association that is governed by and listening to the needs of our members. We are working hard each day to provide members, like you, better services than ever before. We appreciate your support along this journey toward a better, stronger Association.

We also want to remind you that AQHA and AQHYA members still have the opportunity to participate in the Horseback Riding Program. The Horseback Riding Program is a great way for riders to be rewarded for doing what they love, whether they own a horse, lease a horse or take lessons. The program is open to all breeds and riders of all skill levels.
